League Play
Teams consisting of four people are formed for league play from members that have signed up. Members can also submit self-formed teams of their own choosing. Self-formed teams can have more than four members, to be used as alternates or substitutes. Each team must have a minimum of four full membership curlers - subs assigned to teams can be social curlers, but are still subject to the restrictions of the social membership. A list of people that are available to sub is maintained for teams without alternates when they have absences.
League play is typically on Saturday nights, subject to ice availability at the Ham Arena. A schedule is produced in September, January and June, which may include "bye" weeks, and is subject to the number of teams that have signed up. Several "social nights" specifically intended to involve the social curlers will be scheduled throughout the year.
There is an "ice time" fee for most events to cover the cost for ice rental from the arena. At this time the ice time fee is $15.00 per person per event. This fee is subject to change at any time if circumstances change.
Experience
No experience is required to curl in our league, but all individuals without prior curling experience are required to attend a minimum of one 2-hour training session. This instructional session will cover the rules of play, proper curling ediquette and significant on ice instruction.
Instructional sessions are typically scheduled in September, January and June prior to the start of league sessions. Free, open house sessions will be held at various times throughout the year to encourage people to try curling, and will consist of shorter, 30-45 minute mini-lessons on the ice. This is an opportunity to experience curling for the first time, but will not count as fulfillment of the member's training requirement noted above.
